January 10, 2025 – clear skies – ☀️ 61°
We rang in the new year with a busy, fun and productive Bee! We had 84 guests making a joyful noise in the community room at Weaver’s Needle RV Resort in Apache Junction. You might think parking would be an issue with so many guests driving in from other parts of the Valley, but we’re wonderfully spoiled with a volunteer valet/golf cart service run by helpful husbands. Once we make it inside with all our supplies, we’re given coffee and breakfast treats. Then it’s time to buzz through this Bee!
Before lunch, we had extra buzzing in the form of visiting news crews from Arizona’s Family Ch3 and the kind and caring Kaley O’Kelley from ABC15. AZB4K President, Sylvia Saffell, had an opportunity to sit with Kaley and tell her all about our organization. Tiffany Hunter, with Voices for CASA Children, was also interviewed during this segment. Voices for CASA is one of nearly 30 agencies who receive blankets from AZ Blankets 4 Kids. Click the link below to watch the story that aired on January 24th.
As usual, we had a free table of new-to-you treasures as well as 50 cent fabric fat quarters and amazing deals on yarn. A delicious salad luncheon was provided by our hosts, and when our bellies were full, we had our raffle drawings. Letty’s lovely gift basket went home with one of our favorite volunteers, RoseMary Lloyd, from Palmas Del Sol. We had a record high prize with our 50/50 raffle, awarding over $180 to “active” Allie Watkins, from Mountainbrook Village and the same amount to our kind host, Lois Coudron.
After lunch, we had a short break from our work to admire a Quilt of Valor brought in to share with a room full of people who loved to see the beautiful quilt and also have the opportunity to say thank you for your service, sir. And thank you for sharing your quilt with us.
Bee by the numbers: 78 quilts brought in at the door. 47 finished at the Bee. That’s a total of 125 blankets ready to be delivered to our kids!
Thank you all for making this such a wonderful day!
