Volunteer Spotlight on Ava Cure and Sun Valley Piecemakers

On March 5, 2022, Sun Valley Piecemakers had their annual quilt show in Apache Junction. This group always makes a generous donation of beautiful blankets to us after their show. This year teenager Ava Cure folded and bagged all 52 quilts and carried them to the vehicle of our Distribution Chair, Sylvia Saffell. Ava’s 10 year old brother even quilted one of the blankets. He did a great job! Ava and her brother are grandchildren of the Sun Valley Piecemakers’ current President, Karen Cure.

You may remember Ava from another article we posted in March of 2021 titled Ava Quilts for Kids. Not only does Ava help with her grandmother’s quilt group, but she also quilts for our kids. This year she chose AZ Blankets 4 Kids a second time as her community service project, which is a requirement of the International Baccalaureate Program at Chandler High School. We were happy to accept another cheerful batch of 10 quilts from Ava.

We’re grateful to Sun Valley Piecemakers for making beautiful blankets for our kids, and Ava, for choosing an organization that benefits her peers. Your compassion will be felt by every child who cuddles with the quilts you’ve made. AZ Blankets 4 Kids gives you all an A+!
