Sewing Up A Storm and Sipping Soups at Palmas Del Sol

On October 15, 2022, the Scrap Happy Quilters of Palmas Del Sol hosted our Fall Bee at their place on McKellips Road in Mesa. We’re so grateful to Ellen Outten and the group for inviting us over for a productive day of sewing and socializing. The weather outside was chilly and stormy and the absolute perfect day to be inside, sewing up a storm and sipping homemade soups!

This was our first big Bee at Palmas Del Sol and we’re hoping to make it an annual Fall treat. Mid October is when we start to get excited about surviving another sweltering summer and prepare to welcome back our winter visitors. We had about 50 guests at this Bee, including 11 AZ Blankets 4 Kids Board members. It was the perfect sized crowd to enjoy good food, good fun, and do good work.

Another tradition that we’ve come to enjoy at our Fall Bee is a visit from volunteer, Carol Pettis. This amazing lady sews for us throughout the year and brings her donation to the Fall Bee. Her donation is about 100 blankets! So we’ve begun to have a little blanket parade of these beauties as we unpack, measure, fold and get them ready to go to their forever kid. Please take a look at the slideshow below for some snaps of this special delivery.

Blanket numbers for the day included 210 donated at the door and 23 completed at the Bee.

To sustain us through this busy Bee, our hosts provided an incredible spread of homemade soups. The place smelled so good by lunchtime with all the crock pots lined up on the countertops. Sooooo many soups!

  • Chicken Noodle
  • Butternut Squash
  • Veggie
  • Creamy Bratwurst
  • Loaded Baked Potato
  • Chili with Ground Beef
  • Ham and Bean
  • New Orleans Style French Market

Our 50/50 prize went to Peg Adams. This is her second lucky win! Ticket sales are halved between the winner and the host group, so even if you don’t win, you’ve contributed to our hosts, and they appreciate your support. Peg will be the one in the slideshow fanning out her wad of cash (86 buckaroos!).

And last, but not least, our big door prize basket went to Kathy Buhaug from Towerpoint. I saved Kathy for last because we hope to see her at our next Bee, which is hosted by, you guessed it… Towerpoint! This year we’re having back-to-back Bees at new venues. At the time of this writing, we are only four sleeps away from our Towerpoint Bee. We’d love for you to join us!
