February 25, 2023 – partly cloudy 🌤️ 76°
Our LaHacienda Bee was buzzing with 41 attendees. We had 35 quilts donated at the door and 42 completed at the Bee, for a total of 77 quilts for our kids to cuddle and call their own.
Congratulations to Leann Williams from Palmas del Sol. She won the door prize basket made by our VP, Letty Fowell. This basket was made in a beautiful blue and yellow theme with a big sunflower to top it off. Every door prize basket is lovingly assembled and decorated by Letty, and every winner gets a bountiful treasure that’s almost too pretty to open.
Charlene Yeiter, a resident of our host resort, took home the cool cash prize from our 50/50 raffle. These raffles also support our host groups as they receive the other half of the winnings. It’s always fun to see the reactions to our announcements of the 50/50 total throughout the morning, then see people decide to try for their chance at the big win. We even see some locals run home for a spot of cash (you know who you are). It’s always a good-hearted crowd offering congrats to the winner, even if it wasn’t them.
LaHacienda typically has another opportunity to win. This year they raffled a beautiful muted tone quilt of diamonds and squares. Another local resident, Mary Beach, was the happy winner. Keep scrolling to see a slide show of all our winners and some candid shots from the Bee.
Volunteer Spotlight
Busy hands are happy hands! There were many busy and happy hands at the Quilting Bee at La Hacienda in AJ. One pair of hands belong to Jan Elliott. Jan and her husband are snow birds from Greeley, Colorado. Their blended family consists of five children and grand children. At around 12-13 years old, her mother taught her to sew. Her love of sewing continued and she was introduced to quilting by her church group. Jan found out about AZ Blankets 4 Kids at a church group here in Arizona. She likes attending the Bees and you can find her hands busy tying quilts. At home she constructs quilts and prefers cutting and laying them out. Come lend your hands at our next Bee to help us make kids happy.
